October is the Cranberry Harvest Season.
For anyone involved in agriculture you know that it’s all about reaping the fruits of your labor.
My husband has experienced many seasons as an employee at Decas Cranberry https://www.decascranberry.com in Carver, MA.
We often have the berries and leaves show up in the laundry.
The company sells their product under the Paradise Meadow® label.
Thanks to Scott Hannula of Oiva Hannula and Sons, I had the opportunity to get these pictures of his crew harvesting their crop.
After flooding the bog with water from local ponds, they use a specialized harvest machine called a Beater to knock the cranberries off the vines.
The Cranberries have four air chambers so they float to the surface. The cranberries are then corralled to be sucked up with a pump into a waiting truck.
They are then off to Decas for processing.
The Hannulas have been growing cranberries for four generations in Carver, Massachussets.
In addition to farming Scott is involved in industry marketing efforts, and his family is widely recognized for their innovative growing methods.
